Founded in 1954 by Samuel Wallack (deceased in 1965), Wallack Galleries remains one of Canada’s oldest commercial art galleries. John Wallack assumed directorship of the gallery in 1965, and changed the gallery format to include a stable of contemporary artists rather than exclusively buying and selling works of deceased artists, and the main focus of the gallery remains so to this day.

Celebrating 138 years in 2017, the Ottawa School of Art (OSA) follows an honourable tradition of alternative art schools by providing the community with the opportunity for visual arts expression and creative development. The Ottawa School of Art Gallery is non-profit and features juried local, national, and international artists as well as lectures and special events.

Located on the Centrum Level of the Shenkman Arts Centre, the Ottawa School of Art Orleans (OSAO) Gallery is dedicated to providing the community with a wide variety of art forms. As an emerging presence on the Ottawa art scene, the gallery has featured juried local, national and international shows by contemporary artists and groups. Past exhibition included paintings, sculptures, and video installations.Launched in 2009, in conjunction with the opening of the Shenkman Arts Centre and the Ottawa School of Art’s Orleans Campus, the OSAO Gallery features annual exhibitions by OSAO teachers, students and alumni.The Gallery enjoys participating in the community and taking part in Cultural events held at the Shenkman Art Centre, such as Orleans Fest and Culture Days.

AOE Gallery/Shenkman Arts Centre
The AOE Gallery showcases visual art by professional, emerging and established artists who are members of AOE Arts Council. The offices of AOE Arts Council double as a gallery space with a lobby and large meeting room as focal exhibiting areas. The AOE Gallery is recognized as one of the Shenkman Arts Centre seven exhibition spaces and is run as a professional gallery with a jury of professional artists to review and select the submissions.
Open on select Sundays for Meet the Artists, from 1 to 3 p.m. and Thursday evenings in July and August from 7 to 9 p.m.
